Michael Reber, PhD
After a PhD in Human and Molecular genetics from University of Paris and a postdoctoral training at the Salk Institute in San Diego, Dr Reber started his lab in Strasbourg, France where he studied how connectivity and wiring of the visual system develops and works. Using experimental and computational techniques, Dr Reber has been characterizing and modelling major basic principles and molecular mechanisms which regulate the connections between the eye and the brain. At the Krembil Research Institute since 2018, Dr Reber develops a translational research approach, leading a group of scientists and clinicians. They investigate the basic molecular mechanisms of eye-brain connectivity and how to protect these connections from disease and injury, focusing on glaucoma. Stemming from the basic work on visual processing and connectivity, clinicians and computer scientists in his group develop and test visual rehabilitation programs for low vision patients using virtual reality.
