Mourning the Loss of Pat Summitt
The following statement was issued today by Stacy Pagos Haller, President and CEO of BrightFocus Foundation:
BrightFocus Foundation joins the nation in mourning the death of Pat Summitt, the winningest college basketball coach of all time. Off the court, she displayed great courage and leadership through her 2011 announcement of her Alzheimer’s disease, a brave act to help bring Alzheimer’s out of the shadows.
Summitt once said, “Individual success is a myth. No one succeeds all by herself.” This holds true for our global fight against Alzheimer’s.
To succeed in slowing, treating, and curing Alzheimer’s, we must work together. Together, we must do more to support scientific research and to offer support for all impacted by the disease. Through these collective actions, we can honor Pat Summitt and millions more who share her diagnosis.
Our thoughts are with Pat Summitt’s family and friends during this difficult time.
