Biography

Shusheng Wang, a male, molecular and developmental biologist, got his PhD in 2005 and recently got his MBA degree from Tulane University. He was trained as a postdoctoral fellow under Dr. Eric Olson at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas (UTSW). Starting in 2009, he started as an assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Pharmacology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology and the Department of Ophthalmology at Tulane University. The research in his lab is focused on the mechanism and therapeutics of noncoding RNAs and small molecules in vascular diseases and retinal diseases, with a focus on age-related macular degeneration.

He has published more than 40 papers in the last 10 years, and got several awards during his career, including the recent President’s Research Council (PRC) distinguished Research Award for 2011 at UTSW, a Research to Prevent Blindness (RPB) Career Development Award in 2012, Stepping Stone Foundation Early Career Professorship in Cell and Molecular Biology in 2014 and a Lepage Faculty Award from Tulane in 2018. As a researcher with a passion for ocular therapeutics, he has served as trustee of the Association for Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics (AOPT) from 2015 to 2017, local organizer for the 14th AOPT meeting in New Orleans in 2019, and is currently the treasurer of AOPT organization.
