Biography
Dr. Anderson specializes in approaches using mice to study ophthalmic diseases. A native of Iowa, Dr. Anderson received his BA degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, before attending the University of Iowa where he received his PhD. During his doctoral research, Dr. Anderson studied developmental neurobiology using Drosophila. Building on a growing interest in genetics, Dr. Anderson went on to perform postdoctoral research with Dr. Simon John at The Jackson Laboratory. His postdoctoral work helped to establish the now widely used DBA/2J mouse model of glaucoma. In 2004, Dr. Anderson was recruited back to the University of Iowa where he continues as a Professor in the Departments of Molecular Physiology & Biophysics and Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. His research continues to emphasize genetic approaches using mice to study glaucoma and work towards improved treatments. Dr. Anderson’s work has led to >80 publications in peer-reviewed journals; he has trained, and continues to train, several upcoming scientists; and he is broadly engaged in many areas of scientific service.
