Chad Hales M.D., PhD is a physician scientist interested in understanding the basic cellular mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, ALS and CTE. He is Georgia born, raised and educated, having attended the University of Georgia for B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Medical College of Georgia for M.D., PhD, and finally, Emory University in Atlanta for medicine internship, neurology residency and behavioral neurology and neuropsychiatry fellowship. Dr. Hales stayed on as faculty in the Emory University School of Medicine and remains dedicated to his roles in research, education and patient care. He has an active basic science research laboratory studying cellular mechanisms of neurodegeneration, serves as investigator/sub-investigator for clinical research trials (AD, FTD) and is a member of the Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center clinical core. He sees patients with memory disorders at the Emory Brain Health Center and also rotates on the inpatient Neurology consult service at Emory University Hospital Midtown. He is the cognitive neurology lead for the Georgia Memory Network (GMN), which has a goal to improve access to memory assessment centers for the citizens of Georgia. He is passionate about educating the next generation of physicians and scientists, including all levels of students from high school to residency and through mentoring opportunities in his laboratory.
