During my undergraduate studies in microbiology, I started working as an intern on a research project related to prion disease in an animal model, which elaborated my interest in the immune system and neuroscience. I decided to continue my studies in neuroscience during my M.S. studies at the University of Calcutta and was a gold medal awardee in my M.S. class of 2011. Then I continued my education at the University of Calcutta, earning my Ph.D. in Neuroscience in 2017. During that time, I was a recipient of the prestigious J. William Fulbright doctoral fellowship, which allowed me to carry out a portion of my Ph.D. research in Dr. Debasish Sinha’s laboratory at The Wilmer Eye Institute, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2015-2016.

During my time in Dr. Sinha’s laboratory, first as a visiting graduate student and now as a postdoc, my main research focuses on understanding the immunological processes associated with dry/atrophic AMD. I have 23 peer-reviewed publications in total and two U.S. patents for the treatment of eye diseases. I have also received several awards, including the BrightFocus Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in Macular Degeneration (2021) and also from conferences such as an award at the Data & Dine meeting hosted by the University of Pittsburgh Postdoc Association (UPPDA, 2018), XXIII Biennial Meeting of the International Society for Eye Research (ISER-2018) and the ARVO annual meeting travel award (2020).
