Biography
Dr. Kazuhiro Kurokawa, an Assistant Scientist at Discoveries in Sight Research Laboratories of the Devers Eye Institute, Portland, Oregon, is an experienced optical engineer in ophthalmic imaging technologies such as optical coherence tomography and adaptive optics. Dr. Kurokawa completed his Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral training in Professor Yasuno’s lab at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, before moving to Bloomington, Indiana, to join Professor Miller’s lab at Indiana University School of Optometry as a Research Associate. In 2021, Dr. Kurokawa joined Legacy-Devers Eye Institute, working with Dr. Brad Fortune and Discoveries in Sight Scientists, to establish a new optical imaging lab from the scratch. The work involves various research areas, including optical engineering, ophthalmic technology, biomedical optics, vision science, and clinical research, helping develop his unique and specialized skills. Dr. Kurokawa’s long-term goal is to improve eye-imaging technology to better define disease onset and retinal health in the living eye and ultimately improve clinical outcomes in treating eye disease.
