Biography
Dr. Jürgen Naggert received his Master’s degree equivalent in chemistry from the University Erlangen in Germany, as well as a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry/Microbiology, which focused on mitochondrial genetics in yeast. Subsequently, he carried out postdoctoral training in molecular biology at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute in Oakland California, which focused on fatty acid metabolism. In 1991, he joined The Jackson Laboratory and was promoted to full professor in 1999. His laboratory has a long-standing interest in the genetics of complex diseases which they investigate by focusing on single gene mutations that contribute to these diseases and evaluate how these mutations interact with genetic background modifiers to affect disease pathology.
