Biography
Dr. C. Saura is an Associate Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Institute of Neuroscience, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB; Spain). He obtained a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona, and then completed postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University and University of Chicago (1998-2000). He was appointed Instructor Professor at the Department of Neurology-Harvard Medical School (2000-04). Dr. Saura was appointed Associate Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2009. Dr. Saura was member of the Directive Board of the INc-UAB (2009-17), Treasurer of the Spanish Society of Neuroscience (2015-19), and Coordinator of the Neurobiology Section at Societat Catalana de Biologia (2015-22). Dr. Saura is currently the National Coordinator of the Grant Program in Biomedicine/Nervous System Diseases (2020-23) at the Spanish National Research Council. Dr. Saura’s lab (www.sauralab.com) investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate brain function, and the mechanisms underlying memory loss and neurodegeneration in neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Saura’s lab employs cutting-edge genetic and transcriptomic methodologies to better understand the molecular pathways causing neuronal dysfunction, memory loss and neurodegeneration in AD. His lab apply chemogenetics and gene therapy to modulate specific neurons as novel therapeutic strategy for the treatment of memory loss in neurological disorders.
